The "Long-forgotten Flame" quest in Monster Hunter Wilds presents hunters with a unique tracking challenge during the story's second chapter. Unlike standard hunts where target monsters are immediately marked on your map, finding the enigmatic Black Flame requires a deliberate investigation through the treacherous Oilwell Basin. Navigating these cavernous layers demands careful preparation, keen tracking skills, and an understanding of the environment.

Starting the Investigation in the Oilwell Basin

To begin tracking the creature, exit the main Basin hub area heading north toward Area 7. As you travel past the local NPCs, keep a close watch on the ground for environmental clues left behind by the beast. Locating and examining the Tar Excretions in Area 7 will immediately trigger your scoutflies to register the unknown monster's signature.

Navigating to Area 15

Once you interact with the clue, open your map to set a direct waypoint on the newly revealed monster marker. Mount your Seikret to safely auto-navigate down through the winding lower levels of the cavern. The path will lead you to Area 15 at the bottom layer, where the Black Flame waits in a subterranean arena.

Preparing for Battle with Nu Udra

Upon arrival in Area 15, you will engage in combat with the leviathan officially known as Nu Udra. Equipping fire-resistant armor, bringing Cool Drinks, and using water-elemental weapons will give you a significant strategic advantage during this intense encounter. Utilizing environmental hazards and aiming for weak points on its tentacles will help turn the tide of battle in your favor.
